Tiamat is similar to the version of the dragon from Final Fantasy IX. Odin also has the same basic design as his Final Fantasy counterpart, as does Leviathan and Titan. The titular dragon, is obviously based on the recurring summon and boss Bahamut, although with a bit of Shinryu. Expy: A bit of cards, own their design to creatures and characters from Final Fantasy (since, of course, Cygames has a lot of Final Fantasy vets on staff):. Embarrassing Nickname: Nightmare hates being nicknamed "Mary". She has horns on her head and dragon wings, and her forearms are scaly. Draconic Humanoid: One character who debuted in the "Mysteria Academy" event is named Grea the Dragonborn. Doomy Dooms of Doom: The final form of Vania's card has the ability "Malinda's Breath of Doom". Cute Witch: A lot of the younger spellcasters are cute girls. Cute Monster Girl / Gorgeous Gorgon: Many of the demon cards such as Medusa and her sisters. Christmas Episode: The "Not So Silent Night" event. Call-Back: The "Chosen Blades" event in February 2014 involved the player returning to several locations that previous events took place (Mysteria Academy and the Castle in the Sky, for instance), meeting/being helped by the protagonists from those events, and, of course, the bosses coming back to life until being defeated again. 
But Thou Must!: Most of the beginning event animations involve a character asking you a question such as, "Will you help?" and if you say no, they'll not believe you, or beg you to help, or something along those lines, just repeating the question over and over until you say "yes".Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Several demon cards, like Camulia for example.Bishōnen: Many cards with young male characters are designed this way, such as Beowulf.
Badass Normal: A lot of the Man cards are characters that have no magical skills, but still are shown to be great warriors in their flavor text.Badass Bookworm: Most of the characters from the "Mysteria Academy" event.Angry Guard Dog: Naturally, the Guard Dog - though he's only angry on the final form of his card.Added Alliterative Appeal: One event in early fall 2013 was called "Sea Beast Belly Beach Blast".
